Walter Zoo has just joined the EAZA.
WAZA on Instagram: "WAZA is pleased to welcome @walterzoo as a new institution member! Established in 1961, Walter Zoo is located at the foothills of the Swiss Alps and is home to over 1000 animals representing 120 species. Over the years the zoo has assumed a significant position as a species conservation organisation, environmental educator and excursions destination. Walter Zoo creates habitats for native species and participates in various nature conservation projects. Since 2020, they have increased their involvement in in situ conservation and are in the process of building a new global Species Conservation Centre, scheduled to open in 2024."

 

Recently a triplet of Bearded emperor tamarins (Saguinus imperator subgrisescens) were born for the first time at the zoo.

Recently atleast 2 Round-eared elephant shrews (Macroscelides proboscideus) were born. Would this be a zoo first breeding for Walter Zoo?

Last month two Round-eared elephant shrews (Macroscelides proboscideus) were born.

Furthermore, 2 Pygmy marmosets (Cebuella pygmaea) were born.

Recently a female Southern three-banded armadillo (Tolypeutes matacus) arrived from Zoo Karlsruhe.

Multiple young primates can now be seen in the Tropenhaus, namely a Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii), a Grey-handed Night Monkey (Aotus lemurinus griseimembra) and the above mentioned pygmy marmosets.
