Of all the cougar exhibits that I have personally seen I've managed to come up with a list of 13 that have one thing in common and that is the lack of a roof. Two are found in Canada while the others are all in the United States and it seems that an open-topped cougar exhibit is perhaps slightly more common than people realize. Are there any others that I've missed or haven't seen?

When I visited Out of Africa in 2010, I remember seeing an open-topped cougar habitat (the single cat shared the exhibit with a pair of black bears). However, I don't know if that is still the case today.

The puma has passed away and they no longer house that species.

I was just at Flamingo Gardens in Miami and their excellent Florida Panther exhibit is open topped.

I've now seen 17 open-topped Cougar exhibits, which is genuinely surprising considering this cat's notoriety for great leaps and bounds. The number is much higher than I would have expected.

Although at least two of these (NEW and DeYoung) no longer house Cougars.

Magnetic Hill Zoo in Canada also has an open top cougar exhibit (at least when I went a number of years ago).

Xcaret park in Mexico has a gorgeous moated puma exhibit; and there is a similar one for jaguars next to it
