Yes, with that explanation in mind the move definitely makes sense. Given the location and that Pairi Daiza recently received eland I think it would make sense for the former elephant area to be added to the savanna exhibit. I don't know how well Cape buffalo would do on hilly terrain, but they currently have their Cape buffalo in a separate area that is not very large and quite far back and not well visible, so if possible it would perhaps be good to move the Cape buffaloes to the elephant area, and perhaps try to allow the smaller animals access this area also, so this area becomes a larger savanna exhibit.
A hyacinthine macaw hatched. Pairi Daiza currently keeps this species off-show, but the young is for the time being on show in the park's nursery. Pairi Daiza
Pairi Daiza's three male François' langurs have moved to Les Terres de Nataé (formerly Zoo de Pont-Scorff) in Bretagne, France. Soon Pairi Daiza will receive a new male, André, from Blijdorp, who will get the company of females for conservation breeding purposes. https://www.facebook.com/pairidaiza...D7VhsHyCEmBVBMuWABgYLVt4Br6eUfsyVkzHYhvdCbfdl
The new Japanese world at Pairi Daiza, "The Land of the Rising Sun", will open on May 11th. Laafsekikkers
The rate at which this collection is developing is simply astonishing. Excuse my ignorance, but do we have a rough date for the new Tropical House (planned to be Europe's largest if memory serves), and are there any other upcoming exhibits at the zoo?
Putting the map together with things we've seen earlier, we know of Japanese macaque, Red-crowned crane, Japanese sika deer, Raccoon dog, Siamang (strangely) and Water buffalo in an immediately adjacent exhibit (which is already finished). Only the Japanese sika deer are new for Pairi Daiza, all the other species are currently housed on-show or off-show at Pairi Daiza, or have been previously present (siamang). The new tropical house will open in 2025 at the earliest, if they can get it done in that timeframe. Given just how much work remains to be done I think 2026 is perhaps more likely, and with a project of this size perhaps it would be good for them to take a bit more time. A while ago there was an article mentioning that the park plans to welcome bongos, black leopards and servals in 2024. A recent discussion at the Laafsekikkers did mention the construction of some aviaries near the abbey tower and the construction of a possible serval exhibit in the African village area, as well as some construction of unknown purposes near the Oasis. Bijzonder: Belgische dierentuin wil zwarte luipaarden gaan houden Nieuwstopic Pairi Daiza (2024) - Pagina 14 - Laafsekikkers.be Another thing to look out for is what they will do with the soon-to be former African elephant exhibit, nothing has been confirmed yet for that area, although some kind of extension of their savanna seems logical. Although I also just realized they might be modifying this exhibit to welcome the bongos.

Pairi Daiza never stops pumping out new exhibits and thanks very much for all your updates. I was just looking at the zoo's online map and they haven't updated it yet to include the Japanese world yet. I do have a question about the upcoming 4 hectare/10 acre 'greenhouse' project. Where in the zoo will it be located?
The Sanctuary is being constructed at the location of the old parking lot, between the road, the old abbey wall and the new entrance. I have added a screenshot from WalonMap below, indicating the location of the current solar parking lot, the Sanctuary construction site on the old parking lot location and the entrance. WalOnMap

How easy is the park to access by public transport from Brussels? Planning to visit in June for the first time, any tips much appreciated.
Easy, the journey takes some 1-1.5 hours with one change and a 15 minute walk to the zoo. The Belgian train service (NMBS) offer a very attractive combi ticket with a reduced trainfare and reduced entry ticket for Pairi Daiza from any Belgian station.
