Cairns Koalas and Creatures

    A new facility is opening in Cairns in March 2024. Cairns koalas and creatures will be located within the Pier shopping centre. It is owned by the same group which run Rainforestation Nature Park, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. They also owned the now closed Cairns Wildlife Dome with some of the animals from that facility moving to the new location.

    At present the only confirmed animal is koalas with their habitat already open.

    An update. The complete experience for Cairns Koalas and Creatures will open on 2nd May. So far the only other species shown on their social media are Eastern Blue-tongue Lizard and Rainbow Lorikeet.

    The zoo officially opened today. Here are some updates:
    • there is a reef tank with various marine fish at the entrance.
    • there is a netted aviary for Pacific Emerald Dove, Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove, Noisy Pitta and Rainbow Lorikeet among others.
    • Eastern Bearded Dragon, Frill-necked Dragon and Green Tree Python are additional species on-show.
