I got conformation from Blijdorp that they intend to breed with Wishu and his aunt Lalana. The introduction started and seemed to be going well, Lalana was in heat so she was more receptive towards the introduction.
Six-year-old Asiatic lioness Arya has returned from Korkeasaari Zoo to Fota Wildlife Park, where she was born. The move took place back in July last year. In Helsinki, she was ousted by the other lionesses. Once in Fota, there was a long reintroduction process that took many weeks. There is a recommendation to breed with Arya and male Yali, mating has already been observed. Source: Fota Wildlife Park
The move of the two lion males took place yesterday. The hope is that the new pair in Krakow will have cubs. The pair in Ostrava is already elderly, no more cubs are expected from them. Source: Facebook Zoo Ostrava

Great! So, the male Asiatic Lion imported from India direct is the sire. New genes into the European population, I believe!
Well, Jeez .... ****. I had thought the original second tranche Indian zoos' imported Lions were still surviving at London Zoo... That more or less killed the argument for condoning North nation zoos getting sickly and reproductively inept Asiatic lions from CZA accredited zoos. Really, this happened with Czech Republic, London RP and Singapore during that second tranche of imports. In my PoV that - no holds barred - is quite scandalous and totally unacceptable behaviour on the part of the CZA zoos concerned and flying right in the face of developing and improving sound ex situ conservation breeding Outlooks and create good relations between different zoo regions. On vet health and sanitary conditions' grounds obviously a good part of India's CZA zoos are still failing to meet the mark. You only have to look at how many zoos actually report to zoos from India.... I think some 65-90 zoos at least got all the ZIMS/ISIS access software and hardware. Yet, if you look at how many of those really report to and put in their data into ZIMS ... It is just ludicruous.
From what I remember the pair imported from India a few years ago now and quarantined at Whipsnade were put down due to having TB...
I know this isn’t Europe but thought it might be an interest. Yokohama Zoological Gardens “Zoorasia” in Japan announced the arrival of… Vera & Barra from Singapore Zoo. 1.0 Vera 0.1 Barra Yokohama Zoological Gardens "Zoorasia"
