Fantastic news from Amnéville with the hatchling of verreaux's eagle chicks (number not known). To my knwoledge this is a first for the zoo and, according to their Facebook page, a rarity with only The International Centre of Birds of Prey to breed this species too.

A new Rhino has been born at the zoo!

Yoruba gave birth last Tuesday! The baby was sired by Benny, and is Yoruba’s second Rhino birth, after Bayami in 2016. I wonder why she had such a large gap between these two births.

1, 2 and 3 rhino births in 4 months ! Heka, female southern white rhino, gave birth to her third calf last february 18th at 6.45 am. Mother and baby are doing well.
This is the third rhino birth in Amneville in 4 months and the seventh in 10 years. Well done ! (even I have to say that there something like 8 or 9 rhino at the zoo actually with only 2 enclosures for less than 1 hectare ).

Une troisième naissance de rhinocéros !

At the end of March, a second male polar bear will arrive in Amneville. It is Akiak from Rostock Zoo in Germany. Akiak and Henk are half brothers.

A friend of mine received the new leaflet for 2022 where they speak about the 2 polar bears for the first time. New for this year :
    - the 2 polar bears in a totally redone exhibit,
    - a arctic wolves enclosure enlarged,
    - the children farm has been transformed into an interactive space.

Does anybody know what african green pigeon species the zoo keeps or kept at the small entrancw green house between the flamingo enclsoure ans the gorilla indoor area.
They were free flying, over the bridge that had a water area for african mud turtles.

Somebody sadly deleted them from zootierliste.
I had added them after I have seen them years aho but I do not remember the species.

In a newspaper article (not available for reading unfortunately) it is said that the zoo is thinking about putting lodges on tigers exhibit as they see the huge success of the neighboor park (Sainte Croix) which has lots of them and is always full.
