Erm.. Its a Monotypic genus with one species. Are you thinking of something else?
EDIT: Ah, okay. I understand what you mean. All Heliornithidae species? No, Just Heliornis fulica.

Can't say which I like better! Both interesting names, I'll just call it the Saola.

Strangely enough, when I was younger I think learned about bandicoot rats before Actual bandicoots! :p

Ah OK, then the sungrebe is only the American finfoot and not the African and Asian finfoots. Thanks for the explanation!

My father knew that the original bandicoot was a rat, which surprised me when I was much younger.

Not sure what exactly an "Akikiki" is (sounds like one of the Hawaiian honeycreepers), all the others are species (or groups of species, such as mesites) that I knew before joining Zoochat. Only saw two of them in zoos, tough (The relatively common four-eyed fish and the much rarer bananaquit), while one I would give a kidney for seeing and photographing it alive (the giant ibis). Hmmm.. just exaggeration, I appreciate very much my kidneys :p

I’ve been fortunate enough to see two Mesite species (Brown and Subdesert), both Linmpkin subspecies and several Bananaquit subspecies in the wild. Never seen a Hawaiian honeyeater however.

I think that many Hawaiian honeycreeper names would do well in games of Scrabble

I'll admit, there are plenty of species I've never heard of. Unfortunately, I don't know what they are as I've never heard of them before.
