Yes I thought about that, but I saw Wellington Green Geckos in cages, a large enclosure for Tuataras, an even larger enclosure for takahes, wetas in their 'hotels' (which weren't really cages, I admit) and, of course, Sirocco the Kakapo in his custom built home. Hix
Here's my list. The numbers are how many times I visited the zoo this year, and zoos in bold are new zoos. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (1) Lowry Park Zoo (1) Beardsley Zoo (6) Mystic Aquarium (1) Bronx Zoo (1)
My numbers are pitifully low this year. I used to go zoo traveling with a friend, but after the friendship ended I didn't feel much like visiting for awhile. I didn't visit any new zoos this year, but hope to in 2012 as I'm getting my excitement back for visiting. When I plan a vacation, even an overnight trip, I try to focus on 2 things: zoos and lighthouses. I travel alone and as a result, I can go where I like to. Phoenix Zoo--live less than a mile away so I'm there a lot Wildlife World Zoo--once or twice San Diego Zoo--3 times Wild Animal Park--2 times I'm hoping to visit some in northern california come late spring, but it'll likely depend on what animals happen in san diego. I'm inexplicably drawn to San Diego time and again. *eta* Since people are including aquariums, I'll add mine. Not sure Sea World counts as an aquarium, though. Not sure what category it'd fall under. Sea World California--twice (met the wonderful Jack Hanna in April!)
I realise the title of this thread is Your Zoo Visits in 2011 but I visited a new aquarium today (with one day to spare) and thought I'd add it to my list. I also realized that I haven't put down any aquariums. -Melbourne Aquarium - Once -National Sealife Centre Birmingham - Once
Right seeing as I will not be doing another collection until the new year thought I would add my list now,* after a collection means new for the year,(2) means the number of visits if greater than 1 Chester Zoo (22) Twycross Zoo (6) Martin Mere WWT Blackbrook Zoo (4) Cotswold Wildlife Park (5) Private Reptile Collection in Oxfordshire* Heythrop Zoo (3) Cotswold Falconry Centre (3) Birdland (2) Bristol Zoo (2) Belfast Zoo Dudley Zoo (4) Gentleshaws Wildlife Centre (2) World of Crocodiles* (2) Birmingham Nature Centre (3) Reaseheath Zoo Lakeside Bird of Prey Centre* The Palms Stapely The King Cobra Sanctuary* Slimbridge WWT Harewood House Bird Garden Tropical World Leeds Lotherton Hall Bird Garden Blackpool Zoo Blackpool Sealife Centre Colchester Zoo London Zoo Whipsnade Zoo Aquarium of the Lakes South Lakes Wild Animal Park Tierpark Berlin* (2) Zoo Berlin* (2) Zoo Leipzig* (2) Zoo Halle Berlin Sealife Centre The lowest total of collections visited for over 10 years, can only hope next year is better.

No, you're wrong on that one. I've got the lowest number, here. I didn't have much zoo action this year, and in 2012 I'm hoping to change that now that I am a member of the Bronx Zoo. But, in 2011, I only had 2 zoo visits. Sunday, June 26th, 2011- Bronx Zoo in New York City, New York, USA Saturday, November 5th, 2011- Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Well, I visited the Bronx Zoo with pretty much my entire family, so I wasn't able to just wander around wherever I wanted to; they wanted me to sort of "guide" them/give them a tour... However, I hadn't been there in a while, so I enjoyed the trip, nonetheless. I actually scheduled my trip to Beardsley Zoo. I was there to shadow a couple of the workers; I did a bit of volunteering and helped educate guests about the animals, I got to walk around the zoo grounds with one of the zookeepers and hear about some of the animals' backgrounds (most interesting, an ocelot with three legs), and I got to go into staff-only areas to see where they held the animals, stored the animals' food, and held off-exhibit species (such as long-eared owls, emperor scorpions, a chinchilla and even two boa constrictors). I learned about the animals' feeding schedules and also how they tried to simulate their diets in the wild. Ooh, I got in for free, too! It was a very exciting experience, and one that was better than any of my previous Bronx Zoo visits (except for my April 2010 visit, when I met Jeff Corwin ). 2011 was a great year. I hope 2012 is even better! Happy New Year to all! -AnaheimZoo
With the year about to end (in England at least), I've decided to join in. I've never counted or listed my visits before so I'm sure I've forgotten some, but this is a list of my collection visits from 2011. As with many others, new collections have been marked with an asterisk (*). Most foreign collections were visited just once, with the exceptions of Alexandria Zoo, Atlantis the Palm, Berlin Zoo, Dubai Aquarium and Zurich Zoo. Only Zurich Zoo was visited on two separate trips to the country.
