From looking at your pictures of the zoo and the map it looks like this zoo doesn't have a lot of room for expansion. If they wanted to expand the elephant area to modern standards do you think that can do it with the room available?
There is really has no room to expand the elephant exhibit, but it is barren. A rubbing post, a sand pit, replacing the dangerous dry moat with hot wires, would help. If one looks at similiar over a century old urban zoos like Menagerie des Jardin des Plantes in Paris, Central park zoo, London zoo, and Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago none have elephants. Buenos Aires zoo will have to face the facts eventually and we can hope that if these elephants are not moved, at least they will not be replaced by other elephants.
