African manatee

Wow. Another rarity possessed in Asiatic zoos and aquariums. How many do they have?

Only two here, but African manatees have became ABC species of Aquariums which belong to Haichang Group.

Has any aquarium in China already bred these guys?

I haven't hear any breeding news.

Do you know if the manatees at Yantai are male and female? Also what does an ABC species mean?

....a species you would see in an ABC of animals book - antelope, bear, camel, and so on. So, the sorts of animals easily identifiable by members of the public, as opposed to, say, fanaloka, cacomistle and - one might normally add - African manatee.

Sorry I didn't know they were male or female... And ABC species mean they are very common species in Chinese aquariums.

I don't think manatees in general ever breed in captivity, do they?

This is not correct, manatees have been been born in several European zoos including Amsterdam, Nuremberg and Beuval.
