      The owls are always tethered?

There was a total of perhaps a dozen owls (of various species) all tethered in this walk-through aviary and members of the public can slip on a glove and hold an owl while under the watchful gaze of a volunteer. There was a second aviary with hawks and eagles but I'm not sure if visitors can hold any of those birds and I have no idea where the birds go at night.

If the birds were always tethered, surely it wouldn't need to be an aviary?
