Do they have a hut to hybernate in during the winter, or do they hybernate in the pond itself?
    • savethelephant
Not sure if they have a hut but they certainly don't hibernate in pond(Most likely kept off-show)

It might be a good idea for Queens zoo to make a year-round alligator greenhouse.

But would it be worth it? Greenhouses cost a fair sum of money

That and the charm of an outdoors crocodilian enclosure, in contrast to the huge amount of indoor crocodilians, even in temperate climates. Heck, even in my native Catalonia, the american alligators they have had in Barcelona Zoo and otherwise were kept in indoor enclosures, even though temperatures year-round in this Mediterranean climate are warmer than in the Oceanic climated New York. So, I guess it's fine to keep them outside.
