America's Top 100 Zoos & Aquariums

I, for one, am very exited.

I would really hope to get a copy of this. As a huge fan of visiting zoos, this may be just the thing to plan my (hopefully existent) next trip.

Since I know one of the two primary authors (and have been in contact with the other author) I have known of this for a while. What I did not know about is the addendum listing top twenty specialist collections. That will make it even nicer. What I can tell you is the top 100 is divided into 80 zoos and 20 aquariums, which I think is a very nice division.

Excellent destination for any profits made, as well. Looking forward to this one a great deal!

I also did not know they were donating the profits to those two organizations, which is fantastic. This should be reason enough for every ZooChatter to order this book!

@snowleopard suggests in one of his recent threads that the book will be available for purchase form September - definitely something to look forward to.

BTW the cover photo is a bateleur eagle at San Antonio Zoo. (I know because I took it). I have not seen any of the interior spreads, but it is my understanding that those photos will be predominantly exhibit overview shots and not individual animals like the cover.

Any news on a release date?
    • snowleopard
@NSU42 Thanks for asking and we are aiming for a November release date now. The book has taken much longer to design than anticipated, but the good news is that ALL of the photos are colour images and there is, on average, two photos per page. There will be full essays for 80 zoos and 20 aquariums, plus literally hundreds of colour photos of exhibits and animals included. The delay in finishing the book has improved the overall quality. :) Tim and I won't know an exact page count until publication, and we are still editing minor details (ex: Denver Zoo is closing 'Bird World'), but we are extremely close now and I'll keep people updated as November approaches.

Really looking forward to it. I just hope the British and Canadian authors are able to forgo British spellings like "colour" (post above) and use American spellings, since it is a book on American zoos! :p
