      Are there captive olms in America? Isn't a North American species more likely here?

      The animal in question is in a UK collection, and is a Greater Siren.

      And no, there are no captive olms anywhere outside Croatia and Slovenia - and I'm not entirely sure those collections inside these countries which held the taxon still do so.

      Olms have been kept and still exist at the Hermann's Cave (Germany) since 1932. They are also currently kept in a breeding project in Croatia, sponsored by the local university.

      Oops, hadn't realised that it was a UK poster! :eek:

      If I'd known that I would have checked ZTL, but I did think olms were generally absent from captivity.

      I believe those are an introduction into a wild situation however, as opposed to being kept in a captive situation.
