Asian Highlands, already one of America's very best zoo exhibit complexes, looks quite spectacular in the winter! The Utah mountains might well be the Himalayas, and was it easy to see all 5 species of cat? Also, Rocky Shores appears very impressive in the off-season, as the species found in that excellent complex are all hardy and used to chilly weather.
Interestingly most of the zoo, including the exhibits for supposedly hardy species looked deserted. In Asian Highlands, the Pallas' Cats were nowhere to be seen, and three enclosures were occupied by Amur Tigers. The Snow Leopard cub was quite visibile and active. In Rocky Shores, the River Otters and Polar Bear were both no-shows as well.
When I visited this past Thursday there were Amur Tigers in 2 exhibits, Siberian Lynx, and Amur Leopard on display. I did not see any Pallas' Cats on my visit.
Good to know the Siberian Lynx are still there. It's also nice to see the rotational concept in full usage.
