Bird Signage in Discovery Center

Species List: sunbittern, speckled mousebird, white-bellied go-away bird, scarlet-chested parrot, silver-eared mesia, common emerald dove, pink pigeon, hooded pitta, pheasant pigeon, Lady Amherst's pheasant, Rothschild's peacock-pheasant, ringed teal, bamboo partridge, and Victoria crowned pigeon.

      I saw many of these birds (crowned pigeon, pigeons and doves, mesia, pitta, and mousebird), saw ones not listed here (a couple duck species) and failed to see others (parrot, sunbittern, go-away bird). The missing go-away bird was especially disappointing; they are a rarity in zoos and were one of my favorite birds in Tanzania.

      There's definitely some interesting species listed in there. Although I do wish more aviaries in United States zoos would have more information about the bird species in their exhibits. I feel that is one area in which AZA zoos could increase their educational value.
