Black necked stork (male)

Bundala National Park, Sri Lanka. July 30th 2018. I was really lucky to see one of these birds as they are one of the rarest birds in Sri Lanka. And the largest and one of the coolest as well. The highlight of the day for sure.

Nice photograph! I remember seeing one of these in Yala back in January 2016. According to our guide there were just 2 individuals left within the park back then. You perhaps know if this is still the case?

According to some sources, only about a dozen of these birds remain in Sri Lanka, mostly around Yala and Bundala National Park. It is classified as 'very rare' in my bird guide. The tour guide said we were 'very lucky' to see one.
