On zoolex it says it cost USD 43,000,000 including 11 % for design and for anyone interested here is a link to the zoolex presentation. ZooLex Exhibit

For whatever reason, the Zoolex presentation fails to list or illustrate the indoor (but very elaborate) exhibit for Wolf's guenons, a very beautiful small monkey. I've seen them there every time I've visited, since the exhibit opened 10 years ago until this past summer. The primate space is visually connected but almost invisibly-separated from an aviary with Congo peacocks, hornbills and other birds

The Bronx Zoo prepared that entry. All I can say is.....;)

I love your hints Zooplantman! I now have images of $60 million price tags floating under the table, hidden from view of tax creditors...haha.

Smallest primate? Shouldn't it be Pygmy Mouse Lemurs then? ;)

The combination of gorillas and smaller primates doesn't seem to always work...

Is it possible to the vistors to see the gorillas indoors ? I bet no, and I could imagine ,the indoor exhibit are not that good as like as the wonderful looking outdoor exhibit. I know a lot of examples for that, so San Diego, to name just one...But the diffrence is, the SD Gorillas can use the outdoor exhibit every day of the year, the Bronx gorillas just in summer...

I have to agree that the major flaw for the Bronx is the weather. If the Bronx had better weather I wonder how good they would be.

The LA Zoo's new Campo Gorilla Reserve has an aditional backstage exhibit that is completely outdoors and resembles Howletts gorilla exhibit, but it's hardly used since the gorillas have access to the front exhibit year round.

Yes there is an indoor view in winter. It was felt that no great indoor exhibit could be done, so a "room" with artificial trees, roots, etc was made attached to the huge indoor communal space. The gorillas can venture there to see visitors if they feel like it. In fact, there's a log that they can jump up and down on and it appears to extend through the glass. If a visitor sits on their end it will move! But visitors cannot see the big communal space behind this viewing space. In the warm weather season the viewing window is completely hidden by a fake wall. The second group of gorillas has a similar arrangement that looks into the classroom space in the building. The teachers can block that window off when they want.

There are no winter views of okapi, mandrill, DeBrazza guenon, red river hogs.

"Off-exhibit Animal Management spaces include: two tall, skylighted gorilla community dayrooms, eight interconnected shift spaces, two gorilla quarantine spaces, three outdoor gorilla holding cages"
