      Indeed. Out of interest were they pacing in a stereotyped manner? The only ones I have ever seen (at the Opel Zoo) were in a nice looking enclosure, not troweled concrete; and were pacing dreadfully, and noticeably....

      @Andrew Swales This zoo is very recently opened and these will be a new import from Africa so stereotypies may take a while to develop.

      As soon as I wrote the above sentence I wondered if it is true. Is it also the case that these issues can emerge suddenly and dramatically?
