      This would be Bessie.

Is she one of the older females?
    • Hix
Yes, can't remember exactly but she's well into her 50's now, maybe even early 60's.
    • Jabiru96
So one of the grandmothers :)
    • Hix
Maybe even great-grandmothers, I just can't remember her family tree.

Has Taronga got one of the biggest chimp groups in captivity and, if so, how their group rates compared to the biggest group in the world?
    • Hix
At one time, when there was around 28 chimps in the exhibit, it was certainly one of the largest captive groups. I'm not sure what places like Apenhuel are doing now or how many chimps they have in a single group, but I'm sure there are other similar sized colonies around.

Not sure what you mean by how it 'rates' to other groups?
    • Jabiru96
I mean the comparison of size between other groups. Could you also tell me the sex ratio thanks :)
    • Hix
The short answers are "No" and "No". As I don't know how big the largest groups are, I can't answer the first question, and I don't know how many Taronga currently have (there have been many changes to the group since I worked there) but there is generally a lot more females than males.

Am I right there are 19? That is a large number for me!
