      ...and very nice to see in such an open space where you can appreciate their beautiful long tails in flight.

      I am a bit worried what has happened to the wild population. We have hundreds this time of year, every year on our place and this year have none. They breed along the rivers in summer and usually spend the rest of the time around my area.
      Hopefully they have just found another area.

      That certainly is a concern - where we live we see less of the Red-capped (pileated) parrots than we used to, possibly due to competition from the introduced Rainbow lorikeets, mainly for nesting holes. Their status is still good but perhaps moving further into the southwest forests.
