Circus Elephant at Bridlington 1984

Having deliberated about this Elephant the other week, I came to the wrong conclusion as the size of the print means it must have been with the circus that visited in 1984 - I got my first SLR camera in 1985 and this print is too small for that.

Hello Andrew, thanks for posting the elephant photos, this is Gandey's Circus, the elephant will be Rhani, who was hired from Mary Chipperfield, you can see Martin Lacey's Bedford beast wagon in the background, hence the publicity for a trainee lion tamer, merely a publicity stunt, none of these so called trainees ever made it to a career in the big cage. Regarding the Cottle elephants, all three are still alive, the Asians in circus and the African in a safari park, Rhanee, the ex Mary Chipperfield elephant died last year at a zoo in Poland, see my posting about her on the circus memories thread, best wishes Kevin.

Thank-you Kevin. Yes, Gandey's Circus rings a bell. I did remember the 1984 circus featured "Lacey's Lions".
