      Out in the garden today came across 4 of these just lying on the lawn.
      Any ideas as I suppose these are very common and I don\'t have a clue what they are called

      You mean it was a Cinnabar Moth ....

      we have cinnabar moths in NZ too, introduced from the UK to try and control ragwort. I've never seen one though

      Well, yes - it has been quite comprehensively deaded!

      This one was not dead it flew off a few minutes later along with the 3 others into the fields behind my house
      Therefore still is a Cinnabar Moth
