Although it looks rickety & home-made , this is a great space & would be the envy of many serious collections.Innumerable species would breed freely here , given very minor adaptations.

what animal does this enclosure contain?? its a bit big for just a cape barren goose!

Or even a Magellan Goose, which is what this is. Either species can be lethal with other birds, so maybe it killed everything else in here?

there's a kookaburra above the goose and a pair of ruddy shelducks in the background.

Thats really good spoting! I could not see those birds at all :) and I have kept and bred Cape barren geese for many years now, and I have never seen any aggression in them. I would acually put them down as a docile species!

I once rescued a wild Canada gander from a pair of [pinioned] Cereopsis that had got it on the ground and were alternately beating it with their wings and pulling beakfuls of feathers out of its back.

thats really odd, I had 3 pairs of cape barrens sharing an enclosure with Red brested geese, blacked necked swans, smew, blacked-necked stilts, ringed teal and stellers eiders, which all bred. so maybe you cam across and agressive pair.

Are you able to share any photographs of your breeding Steller's Eiders? Many of our readers would be interested.

unfortunately i didnt get any pictures of my stellers, the first year of breeding them :( and then the second year a fox got into the enclosure and took all 5 stellers. I think they where to heavy to run to the pond and I had clipped there wings to stop them smashing in to the roof of the enclosure. but if you want i can give you a name of a breeder.
