      A nice family gathering.

      Its a great shot but deceptive in so much as these three have no family connections..

      This male Boulas hasn't bred at Belfast and is soon going to Twycross.
      The female Kamili has had one baby- by a previous male- but he was handraised and currently lives at Paignton zoo.
      The youngster is a young wild caught one- Gugas. He was possibly the last wildcaught Gorilla to enter a mainstream zoo anywhere. He's now a grownup silverback and they hope he will do some breeding when Boulas goes..

      What abou Kukuma, the 20 year old silverback?
    • Pertinax
      Kukuma was castrated as a youngster- it was an experiment to see if a castrated male not needed(genetically) for breeding could live in a family group. He isn't a silverback- he's more like a female. He seems to be a permanent fixture in the group and no problem.

      Yikes! Poor Kukuma! :eek::(:eek:
    • Pertinax
      Kukuma has been dead some while now. There is another castrated male in Gaia Park in Holland.

      There still isn't any recent breeding at Belfast that I have heard of.
