A view of the main walk-around area at Causeway Safari Park, May 2007,

These are open-topped, hot-wired monkey enclosures in the foreground with the Baboon and Chimp cages to the rear.

Where is this park? Looks a bit run down...
      Is it still open?

This is the Safari Park in Northern Ireland. It closed in about 1996 and the animals have been dispersed over the past 10 years (the Chimps and Baboons to Cefn-yr-Erw), the remaining 4 Lions were euthanased last year shortly before my visit. Since 1996 it has been run by Norman Elder (who hit the headlines a month or so ago) and used by the USPCA to house rescued animals - mainly dangerous dogs. There is a tiger there, rehomed from a private keeper.

The site is badly run down but a fascinating place to poke around.

Is this the place where the headless tigers were found buried? Or was it lions?
    • Paradoxurus
