Have the two young ones, Kumili and Kumi been added to Damisi's(the main) group now? Otherwise they were living mostly offshow with Kumba and Baffia- unless you saw both groups at different times which is possible.

I only ever saw one group which was a bit of a shame I would have like to have seen Kumba and Bafia. I thought it was Shanga and Kumi that were kept with them, I was probably wrong. Looking back through my pictures I think I can see 6 different individuals at first I thought it was only 5. I wish I'd paid more attention while I was there. Trying to identify them from slightly blurred pictures I took of the notices is also quite hard.

I am pretty sure both these photos are the same Gorilla and that its 'Shangha.' Kumili and Kuni are the ones with Baffia & Kumba and they are offshow a lot of the time.

Damisi's group comprises; Damisi, Shani, Asili, Buu, Mbula and Shangha- six animals as you said.

I didn't think this was the same gorilla, if you look at the noses this individual has rather a smooth one - Like Asili also the ear is completely rounded wheras in the other one the top part is straight. This is all rather confusing I should have just labled them 'Gorillas' and left it at that !

Does Chessington have identy boards similar to Twycross (These had disappeared on a recent visit) and Bristol?

Or does anyone have photo of it they can upload as this would sort this problem out! :p

They have quite a small family tree style board which is quite hard to see as it's in shadow. It is also out of date showing Kumba as the dominant male and also displaying Kaja and Mjukuu.

Their display board is out of date and the younger Gorillas have grown/changed quite a bit from their old photos.

First I said this wasn't Asili, but now I'm pretty sure it is. Its not a typical shot of her though and you can't see the top of the head with the little backfacing crest.

This one had quite a youthful aura but must be an adult looking at the crown and I think I'd agree that this must be Shani. From the side this one's jaw is quite prominent which is quite a distinctive feature also the round ear tips are quite distinctive. It's funny that she looks younger than Asili when in fact she is slightly older (I think)

That's because this is Asili...!! Darker, 'smarter' appearance than Shani.

If you can find a good face photo of Asili, and compare it with old photos of either her father (the Jersey) Kumba, her grandmother Npongo, Jersey's female Hallali Kahilli, or Twycross' Mamfe (now dead) and some others born at Jersey, you will see a striking 'family' likeness passed down from 'Npongo- the slightly 'fierce' expression I was talking about- not really fierce obviously, it just looks a bit like that.

Apart from that these four females are all closely related and so very similar in appearance and colour, which is why its so confusing trying to tell them all apart from photos (its easier when you are watching them).
