Afghan Pika Chester Zoo 11 June 1987

ICI presented Chester Zoo with 22 Afghan Pikas (Ochotona rufescens) in 1986 after they had tried to establish them as a laboratory animal. Most were short-lived at the zoo. A few were bred but none of the young survived. This male called Bertie was the last specimen. He lived in the Mammal Division Office in the Oakfield.
