Mara Chester Zoo 16 June 1999

Patagonian Cavy Or Mara (Dolichotis patagonum). Chester Zoo are considering housing this species with the Spectacled Bears. They were kept in what is now the bush dog enclosure.

      Interesting to hear that they may return, considering Chester is one of the few large zoos not to exhibit them. When did they originally leave?

      Chester had them between 1998 and 2002. I think they left because they are so common.
