i am doing an assignment about giraffes at college. at chester zoo, what are they fed and how oftern, also when are the health checks cariied out. and what is their enrichment plan? please help
I'm afraid I can't help you with that level of detail - you'd be best off to contact the zoo directly. Good luck with it!
Giraffe's in zoo's are usually fed lucerne which is a coarse type of grass/hay, which is easily digestable and a good source of fibre. The giraffes are also fed browse twice a day (i think) as well as a concentrate mix. Enrichment can involves playing pony cubes into enrichment balls which are hung from the indoor enclosure. The browse they are fed is an enrichment tool as well. There are several scientific papers on giraffes husbandry, nutrition and enrichment on the net.
