Colchester Zoo has 2.1 Giant Anteater. This is a young male, Silva, was born in December 2007. He is the inhabitant of the old Fossa enclosure at the moment.
Where are the Fossa being kept at the moment? This certainly isn,t an old enclosure of the fossa as they were in it when I last visited.
Are the giant anteaters mixed with some sort of monkey or are the branches remnants from the fossa days?
Now thinking about it I think that Silva could be in here temporarily until he is transferred out of the collection. he is not mixed with any monkey species, the branches are remnants from the Fossa exhibit, I presume they will move back in here when he has been transferred.
Silva is due to be moved shortly but the Fossa have now left the zoo. The male died I think and the female moved to Druisburg Zoo. (It may be the other way round lol!)
I saw a mother with a young one on her back. If there are 2.1 including the young male Silva, does that mean they haven't got an adult male? What happened to the father of the young?
When I uploaded this photo, the female was only pregnant at that time, so I did not count the current youngest specimen. So, at the moment Colchester Zoo keeps 2.1.1 Giant Anteater.
Silva is due to move to a cambridgshire zoo very soon. (Have a guess) Colchester Zoo now has 3:1 Giant Anteaters now that the new male has been born. Also does anyone know what happened to the Mara in this enclosure? They seemed to have disappeared ages ago but I forgot to ask on here.
