Would it kill them to put more plants and climbing structures in here? It looks awfully bare.

This exhibit is once again as basic as it gets, which is obvious to anyone whether they actually visit the zoo or simply glance through a series of photos. Having said that, even with its deficiencies it appears to be one of the better enclosures at poor old Dudley Zoo!:)

This could be sorted out with a few hundred quid, its not really difficult
      Why don't they bother?

I think for you to say that really just shows how cluless you are. Everytime i have visited dudley zoo, i have seen nothing but improvements and keepers getting stuck into enriching the animals lives. For what little the zoo has they are definately making the most of it and are doing a ruddy good job!!!

Oh come on now, leave the personal abuse out!

Indeed, great intro to the forums

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY don't understand this. For many years now Dudley Zoo have been trumpeting MULTI MILLIOn pound developments, so how come its still a case of 'what little the Zoo has' ? They continue to maintain simplistic exhibits such as this and the Chimpanzeee enclosure which, because they are so bare, soon become rundown -looking.

As Ashley- H and others commented, it would cost only a little more to plant extensive vegetation and other natural 'furniture' and so turn this basically adequate enclosure into a very good one. Why does this never happen at Dudley? Is there nobody there that has any flair for design sense at all or, despite the continual talk of multi million pound expenditure, are they really too hard up to even plant up a small enclosure like this?

I don't know if it's as bad as that, but the reason none of the big plans have come to fruition is definitely financial as I understand it. Big plans, but no funds in place.

At Dudley this issue has been a regular 'cycle' for maybe 30 years now. They advertise big developments on their website, in the local press etc then just don't seem able to follow through with them.

On a much smaller scale, they could surely run to planting up this one Macaque enclosure though;) Just doing that would indicate a positive change of direction, but this is very unimaginitive for a modern enclosure.
