I´m just making this up but I bet visitors were always petting the rhinos until a loud Scottish roar from a keeper would frighten them (the visitors) away.Is this just my over-active imagination or do any visitors have memories of such scenes?

guilty here, always used find one or both Floozie or Kruger at this end of the enclosure.

This is the current bongo exhibit.

so when did the rhino move to the current enclosure which contains the indian rhino?

On a similar subject I noticed on the zoo map that this zoo has no elephants, gorillas, giraffes, or river hippos and that some of these species (at least giraffes and elephants) are planned to be exhibited in the future with the development of biome exhibits. The information source for this is Wikipedia, so I'm wondering if these are real plans or somebody's fantasy?
    • Cat-Man
      ^no, these are genuine plans

They've had Elephants, Giraffes and Gorillas (not sure about Nile Hippo) in the past. Each have left for various reasons. I doubt that they will have Gorillas again, but Giraffe and Elephants in the future- maybe it is correct.

When + Why did the elephant + giraffe leave? I know the gorilla left because they're enclosure was appauling, this was only in 2007 if I'm correct?

I believe the current rhino enclosure was redesigned before the Zoo took on Indian Rhinos (it used to be the Giraffe area) so I don't think the White Rhinos ever moved from this enclosure (not 100% sure though).

This pair also disproved the theories about White Rhinos having to be kept in groups to allow breeding- they had about eleven calves without any other rhinos being present.

Yes, I think the last two Gorillas, SamSam and Yinka, left about then. Their enclosure/house will be the Giant Panda exhibit when renovations are finished. They went to Twycoss temporarily as they were moving to Spain, but Yinka died and Twycross then kept SamSam till he died.

I don't have dates or much info- I think the last Elephant at Edinburgh probably died- it was an African female and had some sort of phobia whih prevented it from coming outside.

Giraffes- presumably to make way for rhinos though I have no details. Its a pity they didn't keep them on.
