What an excellent picture - thank-you mukisi. He looks quite young there. I was about to hazard a guess at 1964, but that would mean he had been there at the same time as the two in the Coach House. Was that the case? Could he have been at a winter zoo while they were there? That leaves 1965. Would he have grown to the size he was in 1966 if this is 1965?

lol sorry... I didn't see Mukisi's post where he named him.

By the way, I printed off yet another article I found. It was about Freddie being in an 'accident'. The horse-box he was traveling in lost a wheel, but he was fine. However, just out of interest it mentions Freddie was 3 years old and that was in Aug 1965.

Does it say where he was going or had been? Maybe just a publicity type thing like in one of your articles?

No, I think it's true. The accident happened on Racecourse road, near East Ayton. He was coming back from a charity event at the Athletic ground in Scarborough. The horse-box Freddie was traveling in was extensively damaged, but fortunately Freddie escaped with only a slight graze to his forehead.

Sorry, I didn't mean a publicity stunt, I meant maybe he was on his way to or from some kind of event to generate publicity for the zoo (as was the case) rather than on his way to or from another APP zoo.
