Djala likes nettles

Enrichment for Djala. He strips the leaves off the nettles, rolls them into a ball and puts them into the side of his mouth to avoid getting stung. Port Lympne, August 2007.

The Aspinall parks instilled a deep respect for the Gorilla in me , and truly they are unrivaled in their success with this species , silverbacks have amazing power they always remind of heavyweight boxers albeit far more restrained , i have seen at howletts on more then one occasion in the past a gorilla irritated by the general public thump the enclosures bars with a power Frank Bruno would be proud off its always funny to hear how silent the crowd around the enclosure becomes after that
