They *did* finish building this enclosure didn't they? :p

Not often one to defend poor exhibits, but this enclosure actually looks better in real life than any of the pictures I have seen or taken make it look!
    • Arizona Docent
This is better than just about any snow leopard exhibit in the USA.

I understand it's very much in vogue to criticise this establishment at the moment but the photographs of this exhibit look fine. I've never visited south lakes nor do I ever intend to but this exhibit appears to be trying to replicate a scree like habitat, having spent a week in the himilayan foothills myself isn't a bad attempt. As the exhibit matures it can only improve.
It's certainly looks better than any of the british snow keopard exhibits which I have seen.

I would argue that Twycross is or would be better if it wasn't part of the shop and cafe and kids play area! But apart from that none are close to a scree field.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm saying that from photographs the south lakes exhibit looks better than twycross, Marwell and both Aspinal parks. I'd always prefer to see open topped enclosures where possible and natural rock instead of "shotcrete". I know Port lympne has an open top enclosure too but it's a little too "village green" for me.
If this is a good size it could rival Zurich.

If you visited and saw this open topped enclosure you might change your view about that!

It may be naturalistic but it certainly doesn't rest easy on the eye. It looks like piles of rock(scree) have been dumped in a grass enclosure and then just left. The poles and logs I'm not clear what they are for or if that is a finished exhibit? It doesn't look like it.

Landscaping is not one of their strong points....

Presumably the poles are the feeding poles that South Lakes uses with most (all?) of its big cats.

I guess so. But to me this just looks a wholesale mess! It reminds me of a rubbish tip.
