That's a very good Amherst; no sign of Golden Pheasant blood

Are you sure about the species? Looks like a Blood Pheasant. I could be wrong, but this is what I remember a Blood Pheasant looking like.
    • Chlidonias
it is definitely a Lady Amherst's. Blood pheasants look nothing like this. (Try googling some photos and you'll see the difference).

OK, I've been keeping the species for over 40 years, but I could be wrong. Actually it might be a Giraffe.
    • Chlidonias
giraffes have ossicones on their heads. It's the easiest way to tell them apart from Lady Amherst's pheasants.
    • Pertinax
      They're a bit taller too....
    • Chlidonias
that is often just a misperception depending on where you are standing and how high your heels are

Unfortunately many Giraffe bloodlines have been spoiled by crossing with Golden Pheasants.
To effect this mating, the Golden Pheasant cock needs to wear high heels.

I believe (if I recall my source material correctly) the problem originally stemmed from breeders confusing Lady Amherst with Lady Rothschild

All ladies look the same in the dark...
