Twycross' pair were imported from Sharjah, so are pure Hyaena hyaena sultana and a first for me.

According to Zootierliste.de, Budapest and Beekse Bergen are the only other European zoos to display this subspecies.

Not fair. They were invisible last week.

Sorry! Only got a couple of minutes of activity, if that's any consolation! Otherwise just a head or some fur under a shrub.
    • gentle lemur
Nice! It's hard to see much through that badly scratched glass - and harder still to get a decent photo.

the animals in Hilvarenbeek were also imported from Sjarjah, but if the one that ISIS lists for Budapest is really this ssp.?? I don't think so.

Ahhh I never looked under the bush. I was thinking there not outside or inside and there not in the out of show area either so they must have been under the bush!
    • Maguari
They do seem to like the bush - spent most of the day there by what I saw. Once you knew where they were you could see a bit of fur or a muzzle!
    • Jacobea
Will these two become part of a European beeding programme for this species or are they purely just display animals?

[cynic] Breeding? Don't be silly - this is Twycross! [/cynic]

      ;)

I don't honestly know, but I'd imagine the intention is ultimately to breed them, although they look quite young animals (very small) for the time being.
