Southern Ground Hornbills

I know we have 6 of them but I only saw these two. I would guess its Biko and Catelyn.

I noticed that only a few are let out together. most I've seen walking together is 3.

Interesting because offspring stay with their parents for nearly 10 years before finding a mate of their own. They help raise their younger siblings and it's recommended that offspring stay with their parents through several other clutches before being transferred so future breeding pairs will be experienced. Maybe they just hide well.

That could entirely be possible. It's a large exhibit, with many great hiding spot. People often think the exhibit is empty due to not being able to see the Kudu, which are usually in the back corner of the exhibit.

It would be nice if there was another mammal in the exhibit to help when the kudu are hiding but it is one of the most diverse exhibits at the zoo with 4 species in it.

Keeping all the species in that exhibit, what another species would you like see added with them?
    • TZFan
I don't know... impala, any gazelle, gerenuks. Any of those would make a nice addition. Something a little smaller but that could be kept in slightly larger numbers than the kudu. I could also live with the ostriches moving there but with those pesky wildebeest what would or could I do with the ostrich exhibit... wait build a predator enclosure... Wild dogs anyone?

You, Mr Wrinkly and arcticwolf never cease to amazing me with your knowledge of different species. I had to google what a gerenuk was. You guys are a lot more knowledgeable to in different species than I am, which is usually why I ask what you all would like to see.

Anyways, great choices, and again, I'd love to see those Wild Dogs make it to our zoo :)

I could have listed probably a dozen species I would like to see join the savanna but I went with reasonable hopes. If given an hour I could redesign the whole savanna for you and you would probably have to look up a couple other species but it would be a glorious thing to see.

Oh, I believe you on that one. I've seen some of your, awesome, ideas in that "If you Bought the Zoo" thread.

      Oh the possibilities.
