Carlos: I like your giraffe picture. Does the Chapultepec Zoo have elephants also? I don't see any pictures of any in the gallery.

What is the state of elephant exhibits in Mexican zoos? Is there a movement to shut down inadequate elephant exhibits or build modern ones as there is in the U.S. and Canada? What Mexican zoos have elephants? I saw that the Africam Safari just brought in a new herd of African elephants from Namibia...is this the only zoo with African elephants in Mexico?

Giraffes breed very well at the top big 3 mexican zoos, Chapultepec, Guadalajara and africam safari park. Elephants are another matter, of course. There is a very complete discusion on this matter on a thread in the mexico forum called, what else, elephants in Mexico. To be brief, here chapultepec zoo has no elephants any more, but that was the director´s decision, a wise one i think. The zoo with the best chance of breeding elephants is definitely africam safari park now with both african and asian herds. The anti elephants in zoos movement really does not have any strength in mexico. Maybe that was a factor in Namibia favoring Africam for the elephant move,
