Guenons/mandrills/red river hogs...and where does this fantastic exhibit end? World class and miles better than many other mixed-species exhibits worldwide.

Bronx Zoo is the zoo I most want to visit in America (even more then San Diego) because there are so many exhibits that make my jaw drop because of their amazing naturalness. San Diego seems too concrete if you know what I mean, with all of it's canyons and grottoes.

Your San Diego assumption is really incorrect. There only a few grottos, and the canyons have cat cages that are some of the best planted I have seen. Most of the zoo is lush tropical foliage and world-class animal habitats.

I do understand where your coming from though about the Bronx Zoo :)

There are many of us here at ZooChat that often debate which is the better overall zoo in North America, either San Diego or the Bronx. I won't go into the similarities and differences here on this thread, but needless to say the Congo Gorilla Forest habitats at the Bronx Zoo are arguably the best set of habitats of any zoo in North America.

My feeling is that you you want to see a great animal collection, go to San Diego. If you want to see the best exhibits, go to the Bronx.
    • BlackRhino
I think Bronx and San Diego are both, I disagree the statement that San Diego just has a good collection, because Brookfield Zoo has a great collection, yet most of the exhibits are terrible thus making the zoo not too highly regarded.

Another zoo to throw in with Brookfield for great collection, low-class exhibits is Cincinnati.
    • BlackRhino
Very true. Bronx and San Diego alike have great collections in for the most part knock-out exhibits.

@tigertiger: you are right about Brookfield and Cincinnati, as they have fantastic collections and yet only a handful of impressive exhibits. Brookfield in particular is a massive zoo, but there are plans to renovate a large portion of it over the next decade. Based solely on exhibits the Bronx Zoo is probably #1 in North America, just edging out places like San Diego and Woodland Park.
