Empty Exhibit

African Plains- ?? Exhibit. February 17, 2013. This exhibit is directly before (or after depending on which way you come to it) the big main entrance to "African Trail" and I've never seen a species in it and it's very unkempt and seems pretty much forgotten. Does anyone know what used to live in it and if there's plans to bring in a new species for it.

I nice bit of space to remain empty for too long.

This exhibit previously held arabian oryx. There was I believe only one and the zoo choose to close this exhibit when it faced budget constraints along with the neighboring blesbok exhibit. This area is slated for a african exhibit along with the neighboring exhibits in the future.

Uszoo, are you assuming that the Bronx Zoo will fix this exhibit up again because of their upcoming exhibit plans, or has that been confirmed? If so, I would love to know where you heard it! Thanks.

I am not saying that this enclosure specifically will be fixed up but saying that the zoo has said in the past it would like to redo/ rebuild the african exhibits in the zoos southeast corner which would be right around this exhibit. The zoo has also brought in many african animals over the past few years such as White Rhino's, Kudu, Aardvark and Hyena which leads me to believe they want to follow through on this plan. The zoo would most likely not throw an animal in this exhibit with all the effort that it puts into its enclosures.

Since when does the zoo have kudu? This exhibit is nicely sized and just needs a bit of a make-over and it would be very pretty and very nice for a large African species.

The zoo had them but when they escaped they were forced to send them away.

Oh, when did this happen? And what exhibit were they in?

Is this the area where they used to have Nyala, with no apparent barriers between them & the 'Lion Rock'? No, I've never been there, but i have read Lee Crandall.
