How is anyone supposed to see an orangutan from so far away? The red apes only have the raised portion as their exhibit, which makes them difficult to spot.

Is this really the best view that one can get of the orangs? Yikes. This seems like a horrible design decision if this photo represents the actual exhibit conditions.

Is this concrete tree the ENTIRE orang exhibit? This isn't pretty to look at, but how does it work as a functional exhibit?

Do they have their gorillas in this same building? How is their exhibit?

There are certainly many concrete "branches" for the orangs to climb on, but they are seen from a distance (if at all) and 30 years later this exhibit is badly outdated. The gorillas are also in the same cavernous building (Tragic World;)) and I cannot stand their exhibit. All indoors, all fake blobs of rock, but what makes it arguably even worse than the orangs (from the perspective of the apes) is that the gorillas are almost completely surrounded by a raised pathway so in essence zoo visitors peer down into a gunite pit to see them. The exhibits for the orangs and gorillas are serious contenders for the top 5 worst of their kind in any American zoo.

I understand that gorillas will get a new outdoor exhibit as part of the zoo's master plan, but what about the orangutans? Will they get a new outdoor habitat too, or will they stay in this horrific little area?

It is interesting to see the master plan. Anyone have any idea when they will start on a new project and what it will be? I see that the aardvarks are taken out of the master plan, I hope they would relocate them to another part of the zoo.

Elephants we have been told multiple times by multiple sources. The when is all about fundraising, but you would hope something gets started sooner rather than later.

I do not know if this is acurate because great bear wilderness does not look like what is shown same with the childrens zoo. But if you go to Brookfield zoos website and look at their masterplan it shows this masterplan but with some changes.

The new outdoor ape habitat is planned for very soon! It will be where the former Baboon Island is and will rotate orangs and gorillas in the summer.
