It's a real breath of fresh air to see polar bears like this.

You are absolutely correct Chris. With the huge pack ice enclosure, the equally massive grassy meadow exhibit, and the 70-foot long underwater tunnel section, the Detroit Zoo's polar bear habitat is stunning for all visitors. Not just the best bear exhibit in existence, but arguably one of the very best exhibits for any animal in any zoo. To top it off the zoo also has the best amphibian complex in North America, and the largest chimpanzee habitat on the continent as well.

Good seeing bears in grass! People sometimes forget that during the summer, polar bears walk through the tundra and not ice or rocks.

Lovely shot snowleopard, what is that white robotic looking arm top right of photo? it looks like either a shower head, or a camera.

It is a camera, and I'd be curious to know if it is still there 4 years later. Anyone know?

Thanks for the reply snow leopard, I assume it was to keep an eye on the use of the enclosure by the polar bears or was it to relay images to a screen for visitors?
Sorry for the questions I'm just curious, cameras here in the UK usually spy on people not zoo animals.

A number of American zoos have web cams that show images of animals in their exhibit online, and there are also cameras in some zoos that focus on both the captive creatures and the ones watching them.:)
