      what animals live here?
    • snowleopard
If you look closely you can see all 4 species that reside in the Savannah exhibit, and that's why I like this photo. Giraffe, ostrich, I think Thomson's gazelle, and a species of bird that is on the ground and to the right. I distinctly recall that there were only the 4 different species in the exhibit.

Was this the old elephant exhibit?
    • snowleopard
      I think so, but aren't 100%.

No the camels are in the old elephant exhibit, this is a remodel of the old giraffe exhibit as near as I can tell.

Were there still elephants in the African Journey when you visited Lincoln Park, snowleopard?

The elephants had departed by then, but I did see at least two at Brookfield Zoo the next day. Of course that zoo also no longer showcases elephants, and even Niabi Zoo is sending its two away in the next couple of months. The state of Illinois will soon have zero elephants.

Here is an interesting article on elephants in the Chicago area, and how 3 of the animals at Lincoln Park Zoo all died in a short span of time:

Actually, Brookfield Zoo is making a brand new elephant exhibit.

Brookfield would like to build a new elephant exhibit at some point down the line but the original concept has been scrapped and the whole thing is currently on the back burner.
