How many skinny trees are in this exhibit? Three? The vegetation is all hotwired to death, and so what is left for the gorillas is an open paddock with lots of mowed grass. Why doesn't the zoo construct a white picket fence and complete the 1950's imagery?;) I'm sorry to be negative about this exhibit, but for $7.5 million I expected much more. There are so many other great gorilla enclosures throughout North American zoos, and while this one is much better than the outdated cages seen in Europe it is still totally unsuitable for great apes. I'd rather see just about any species of animal utilizing the pair of exhibits other than gorillas...

I do agree that the exhibit does need more vegetation and trees, but is not as bad as you think. Yes the grass is low, but it is not mowed. The exhibit did have some trees (they were small) when it opened, but the gorillas destroyed the ones that were not protected by hotwire. The small trees that were protected by hotwire were destroyed by the baby since she found a crack in the hotwire and was able to go inside. I had the opportunity to go inside 5 times, and this exhibit is also hilly. It's steeper than what you could see in photos and from the visitor view point. The grass is also longer than what people see.

I think Mario was trying to say this exhibit is not as bad as people are saying. I think everyone would agree nothing is as lush as Bronx, DAK, San Diego, Seattle etc.

Yeah, I know that Campo Gorilla Reserve is not even close to being an amazing exhibit like the ones BlackRhino mentioned, but is not as bad as people make them seem to be.
