I only wish they had added big enough pool to this complex so that they could house Elephant Seals; of course they could not be taken from the wild like they used to, but there are animals every year that are found injured and have no chance to survive in the wild, just as Sea Lions; I understand American zoos receive many of them every year that cannot be returned to the wild; so why not Elephant Seals too.

BTW they completed this facility after I was there in 2003; which species do they house in the Sea Life Cliffs?

There is now a family of 1.4 Harbor Seals living here. When the exhibit opened it had 3 or 4 Sea Lions, which is why the original name of the exhibit is "Sea Lion Cliffs", but they were later replaced by Harbor Seals.

I can certainly vouch for the occurance of rescued elephant seals in the States - there was a young animal at Sea World San Diego when I was there in '98. Rather a pleasant surprise!

I believe that San Francisco Zoo displays multiple rescued Elephant Seal every year before they are released back into the wild.

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center has some Elephant Seal Babies on display but will most likely be returned to the wild.
