I dearly hope these spread about a bit; considering there are no public collections in the UK with elephant shrews one or two of these would not go amiss
Seeing as there are currently only 4 Black-and-rufous elephant shrews in Europe, and them being scarce in America too, I don't think there's much room for spreading, except if all of the collections in America keep them in huge groups. But that is not the case I believe.
I believe there may be one or two more in private hands too - but my intended meaning was that as the Rotterdam pair seem to be decent breeders any future offspring might end up coming to the UK. Be nice if this led to some new blood being brought in from Africa to keep the population going.
You're so right TLD ! Would realy be nice if a larger and stable population could be build up because this is one of the few small mammals ( together with for example Meerkats and Prairiedogs ) which atrack the attention of the big croud !
