What did you think of the North Carolina Zoo?
Did it live up to it's reputation for excellence in your opinion?

To me its only flaw is that it just is two continents so you're missing some animals from that. All exhibits are average to excellent. After mulling it over, the zoo is third on my list for best zoos I've seen.

You and I had a brief discussion on Facebook, but I was curious as to how many American zoos you have visited and which two you would place above North Carolina. You bring up a great point in that the zoo is renowned for its excellence but does only have two continental sections (Africa and North America). There have been occasional press releases in regards to the zoo adding an Asian zone but nothing has happened yet.

Snowleopard, I have just posted in the North Carolina Zoo news section two recent articles about it's potential 20 year plan. AustralAsia, safari rides and a resort on property were mentioned. The two zoos in front of North Carolina to me are Columbus Zoo and Brookfield Zoo. Columbus Zoo with is vast collection, its recent addition of the African savanna and polar bear exhibit, and potential to improve even more in the future. I am sure you will disagree with me about Brookfield as I know you are not a fan of some of their exhibits, but it is another big zoo with a great collection of animals and mostly average to good exhibit. I know there are some bad ones in the bunch! Because both had a broad range of animals, they outweighed North Carolina. This is my 26th zoo that I have visited and finishing up in the top 5 is Lowry Park Zoo and Smithsonian National Zoo. I have many major zoos I still have yet to see!
