This is the North Meadow section of the Elephant Lands project, which opened in stages between early 2014 and late 2015. The entire area devoted to elephants is a full 6 acres, with approximately 4 of those acres accessible by elephants in terms of paddocks. The forested backdrop certainly provides an enticing view, but much of the exhibit is seen through typical cable-style fencing that is common at many other American zoos. There is none of the superb mud-bank theme that is evident at Dallas or Birmingham Zoo...an arguably much more aesthetically pleasing containment barrier.
